Lucile Mae "Lucy" Burkart, 82, of Walker, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Walker United Methodist Church. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, officiated by the Rev. Annette K. Ruhs Kruse. Inurnment: Center Point Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Lucy was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Lindley and Nina (Chesley) Reed. On March 10, 1996, she married Rolland "Tiny" Burkart at the Walker United Methodist Church. Lucy enjoyed coloring, crocheting, embroidering, camping and talking to her friends and family.
Survivors include her three children, Jim (Joni) Thomas of West Des Moines, Diane (Tom) Achilles of Omaha, Neb., and Sarah Thomas of Walker; two stepchildren, Ellen Shakespeare of Toddville and Len Shakespeare of Central City; four grandchildren, Shannon Ferguson, Elizabeth (Rob) Cooley, Jamie Thomas and Shaun Thomas; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; and brother, Laurence (Dixie) Reed of Swisher.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Rolland "Tiny" Burkart in 2008.
