Corbett’s proposal makes no sense

To the editor:
Please don't be fooled. Mayor Ron Corbett's proposal to tie a flat tax to clean water concerns is not some type of solution. It is a brazen attempt to capitalize on an environmental catastrophe.
We desperately need to clean up Iowa's lakes and streams. We do not need to hand yet another tax break to the wealthy. This plan would allow the richest Iowans to hold our water quality hostage. Why would we want to do that?
I have a competing solution I'd like to propose: Let's clean up Iowa's water, then you middle class folks give me and my friends a bunch of money.
Sound good? It makes as much sense as Corbett's proposal.
