A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Wilkening officiating. James is survived by his twin brother, the Rev. Philip Ryan of Brooklyn; two sisters-in-law, Jane Ryan and Judy Heath; and seven nieces and seven nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brothers, Thomas and Jerry; and an older sister, Joan.
James was born April 28, 1931, in Evanston, Ill. He was the fourth of five children born to Clinton and Rose Hansen Ryan. The Ryan family moved from Chicago to Brooklyn in 1936. Brooklyn was Jim's "hometown" ever since. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1949. He served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps, one of which was in Korea during the Korean conflict. He spent his working years as a farmer. Even after his active years as a farmer, he maintained an active interest in agriculture.
Eternal rest grant unto James, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace and may the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
