D.J. Hucker, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with interment in Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday at the church, where a parish vigil service will start at 3 p.m. Visitation will resume after noon Saturday at the church until service time. Father Paul Baldwin and Father John Kremer will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, has been entrusted with the services.

Surviving are his wife, Patty; four children, Susan Hucker, Dyersville; Michael (Kristin) Hucker, Hopkinton; Jon (Janeen) Hucker, Lester Prairie, Minn.; and Christopher (Andrea) Hucker, Hopkinton; 10 grand-children, Jeorgie and David Smith, James, Nicholas, Matthew, William, Sean, Addison, Lucy and Donavon Hucker; and his brother, William of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth; and a grandson, Andrew.
Don James Hucker was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Willett Maternity Hospital, Manchester, Iowa, the son of Donald Kimbal and Gladys Pulver Hucker. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley schools with the class of 1962.
D.J. Hucker and Patty Schlimmer were married Aug. 6, 1966, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. D.J. farmed with his father and later took over the farming operation in South Fork and Union townships.
D.J. was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was very active civically. D.J. was currently serving on the Hopkinton City Council, Delaware County Solid Waste Commission and Delaware County Historical Society. He also was part of the Lenox College Theater Players and Delhi Dam Task Force.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit for their wonderful care and concern during D.J.'s final days.
