Robert D. Stramel, 70, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Renee Richardson Stramel; two sons, Jed (Anne) Stramel of Coralville and Mathew (Michelle) Stramel of Robins; a brother, Edward (Joan) Stramel of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Krista, Jessica and Isaac Stramel; special niece, Page Hartford; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving is his special companion cat, Marley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hilda Stramel; a sister, Barbara Stramel; and his mother-in-law, Greta Richardson.
Robert was born Aug. 3, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Henry and Hilda (Basgall) Stramel. He married Renee Ann Richardson on Nov. 24, 1962, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He retired after 35 years of service from Penford Products as an operations su-pervisor.
He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He loved pheasant hunting, game fishing on Lake Michigan and putting together model cars.
Robert was very devoted to his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with and attending his grandchildren's events.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Unity Point Home Care Nursing, the nurses and doctors from the 3rd and 5th floor at St. Luke's Hospital and the hospice care nurses at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Unit and Father Ivan Nienhaus and Penny Ackerman from St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
