WILLARD HEGEWALD

Willard Louis Hegewald, 85, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Willard was born the son of Otto and Louise (Muesse) Hegewald on May 21, 1931, in Middle Amana. He graduated from Amana High School in 1950. Willard was united in marriage to Joan Lucille Greiner on Sept. 7, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. Together the couple made their home in Middle Amana. Willard worked for Amana Refrigeration for 43 years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and bird watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Willard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, where he enjoyed volunteering.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Amana; five children, Steve (Terry) Hegewald of Keota, Tom (Sharon) Hegewald of Williamsburg, Barbara (Bruce) Heishman of Walford, Leon (Rhonda) Hegewald of Amana and Marla (Joseph) Tursi of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great- grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a sister, Harriet Bierman of Amana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Bierman.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a rosary followed by a prayer service at 4 p.m.
