Burton, Judith Ann
Judith Ann Burton, 67, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away peacefully Saturday, August 7, 2010. Judy was born in Postville, Iowa, to Kenneth Albert Holly and Helen Marie (Trappe) Holly.
Judy is survived by her father, Kenneth Holly; and her sister, Nancy Holly Steinke of Cedar Rapids.
Judy is also survived by her son, Clayton Burton, his wife Sharon Smallwood Burton; and Judy's only grandchild, Brooke Elizabeth Burton of Brandon, Miss.
Judy was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and her son, Kent.
Judy graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, with many honors. She was active in the American Red Cross and worked as a lifeguard for several summers. Judy attended the University of Iowa and married Lynn Burton. They had two sons, Clayton and Kent.
In Hot Springs, Judy worked for 20 years as a legal secretary for John Parkerson and supported the Hot Springs Country Club Board for 30 years. Before retiring, Judy worked for the Salvation Army as a case worker.
Judy was an active member of the Preceptor Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1970 and holds their Master's Degree, the Order of the Rose and Silver Circle distinctions. Judy held all offices at the chapter and City Council levels. Other sorority honors included being the Valentine Queen and Woman of the Year on several occasions. Beta Sigma Phi was an important part of Judy's life.
Judy was artistic, talented and most of all had a great sense of humor. She loved her family and friends who also loved her dearly. She will be missed forever.
Judy asked that her family not hold a formal funeral. Instead she asked that her family arrange a gathering to celebrate her life. The details of this gathering will be announced at a future date.
Contributions in Judy's honor can made to the Ouachita Children's Center in Hot Springs.
