Muriel Anne Howard, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at DeMay Living Center in Newark, N.Y. Calling hours will be held at Cedar Memorial on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 2 to
5 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, beginning at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where Muriel was a member for more than 50 years.
Muriel was born Feb. 16, 1929, in Blakeley, Ga., the daughter of Ira Everette and Gladys Craft. From them, she learned the value of hard work, and was an employee of St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids for 26 years. Muriel was affectionately known as Ms. Anne - a nickname that was displayed on the license plates of the various luxury cars she drove around town over the years. Always impeccably dressed, Muriel loved to travel and visit family across the country.
She is survived by her four daughters, Linda Morris, Rosalind Cacarious (Rudy), Sharon Gray and Marva Hodgins (George); grandchildren, Dwight, Deidrick, Rolisha, Richard, Edward, Mia and Mariel; and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, cousins and friends. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, a niece and a nephew.
