Wang Pachow, 99, of Iowa City, passed away in his sleep on July 18, 2017, at his retirement home in Florida.
He is survived by his son, Hsuan; daughter-in-law, Tammy Pachow; and three grandsons, Cody, Collin and Cameron.
Wang was born in 1918 in Szechuan, China. In 1956, he married Mavis De Silva, and eventually, true to their shared philanthropic disposition, Wang and Mavis donated their home to be used for charitible and humanitarian services for anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by Mavis in 2005.
A resolute scholar at 30 years old, Wang received his Ph.D. in religion from the University of Bombay, India. He went on to become a professor of Eastern Religions at the University of Iowa from 1968 until his retirement in 1988.
Wang's achievements in the academic sphere include authoring 11 books and publishing works in numerous academic journals, including the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Wang loved his family, especially spending time with his three grandsons.
His benevolent and gentle soul will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
