Watkins teen dies after crash in Benton County

BLAIRSTOWN – A teen girl has died after authorities say another car rear-ended the car she was driving.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a Ford Taurus, a 17-year-old male, was heading east on 77th Street, near 24th Avenue, and hit the back of another car, a Volkswagon Rabbit, that was preparing to turn left.
Debra Manternach, 15, of Watkins was driving the Volkswagon, the car that was rear-ended, and she was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals before she died.
The crash remains under investigation.
