Buston, Gerald 'Jerry' W. Jr.
Gerald “Jerry” W. Buxton Jr., 80, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Cremation services were provided by the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. A Celebration of Jerry's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 3, 2010, at Blackstone Restaurant in Iowa City. Friends are invited to come and share their memories of Jerry.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name to the Iowa City Community Band or Iowa City Hospice.

Jerry was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Gerald and Bess Buxton. He graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1949. On Dec. 27, 1954, Jerry married Nancy Fink in Iowa City. For many years, Jerry and his brother operated the Buxton Insurance Agency in Iowa City, until his retirement in 1992. Jerry's first love was music. He played his tuba in the Quad Cities Symphony from 1951 until 1981. He was a member of the University of Iowa Symphony, the Cedar Rapids Symphony, the Eastern Iowa Brass Band and the Kirkwood College Band. He was also a charter member of the Iowa City Community Band.
Jerry's family includes his wife, Nancy; son, Gerald (Shura) Buxton III of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Kathleen (Carl) Volz of Sinking Spring, Pa.; grandchildren, Ryan (Rebekah) Volz of San Francisco, Calif., and Amanda Volz of Sinking Spring, Pa.; and sister, Shirley Buxton of Beaver Dam, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard.
