Anderson, Christine
Christine Anderson died March 1, 2011, in Naples, Fla., at age 97. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids.
Born in Lancaster, Mo., on Dec. 25, 1913, to Raymond and Frances Burkland, Chris Anderson lived in Lancaster until she graduated from Lancaster High School. After her graduation from high school, Chris attended college and received a degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She received an additional Bachelor of Arts in English from Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo.
Chris allowed her love of music to flourish throughout her college years. She played the cello in a string quartet with her sister, Isabel. Together they competed in music competitions, ultimately winning first place in a statewide competition.
While in college, Chris met Dr. Thomas Lange, a physician. They were married in 1933. Soon thereafter, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they began a family. Chris had two children, Sara Jane and Richard.
Chris was a stalwart member of the Cedar Rapids community, being a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter IF, the Junior League of Cedar Rapids and The Cedar Rapids Country Club. Chris gave of herself willingly to better the life of her fellow Cedar Rapidians.
In 1970, Tom Lange died suddenly.
Having been friends for years, Chris and B.L. “Babe” Anderson began a relationship. They were married in 1974. Babe was a prominent Cedar Rapids businessman. Chris and Babe had a wonderful life, traveling wherever there was warmth and sunshine. Together, they enjoyed Hawaii, Mexico, China, Montana, and California. They owned a weekend home at Lake Macbride where they regularly entertained friends and family.
Later, Chris and Babe moved to Florida, eventually settling in Naples as their full time residence. In 1993, Babe died after a lingering illness.
Chris is survived by a daughter, Sara Jane de St. George's, and a son, Richard B. Lange. She had four grandchildren, Christine Rogers, John Vietor, Ashley Palmer and McKenzie Goldwasser; and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Rogers, Samantha Rogers, Burke Vietor and Hunter Vietor.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lancaster United Methodist Church, PO Box 175, Lancaster, MO 63548; Attn: Leanna van Zandt.
