Diane Evans, 52, of Robins, passed away at her home surrounded by her family after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by the Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service followed by a Rosary which may be attended by friends will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Dennis Ternes. Friends may visit with the family from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Diane is survived by her loving family which includes her husband, Jeffrey; daughter, Jessica Evans; son, Blake Evans; six siblings, Denise (Bill) Elliott of Marion, Deb (Steve) Ford of Center Point, Dennis Kucera of Cedar Rapids, and Dan (Jennifer) Kucera, Donna (Jay) Fields and Dawn Fields, all of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Virginia Evans of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Kathy (Dave) Houser of Shueyville; brother-in-law, Mike (Kathy) Evans of Fairfax; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kucera; her father, John Kucera; father-in-law, Leon Evans; and grandparents, Joseph and Beatrice Zerbe.
Diane was born on April 1, 1962, in Cedar Rapids the daughter of John and Mary Zerbe Kucera. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1980. Diane married Jeffrey Evans on May 19, 1990, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. She worked for the Department of Defense in the Defense Contracts Management Agency for 35 years.
Diane volunteered for many organizations including being a
second-grade teacher for Youth Faith Formation, organized food drives from area colleges including Kirkwood Community College, Coe College and Mount Mercy University and monthly meals for the Mission of Hope and Catholic Worker House. She was also a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul and helped organize groups for the "Day of Caring" in Cedar Rapids.
Diane loved boating and tubing on area lakes with her family and friends. She was a great hostess and always made sure that everyone had enough to eat and drink.
Diane's family would like to thank her work family (DCMA) for their love and support and Jeff's work family (Marion Mixers) for allowing him to accommodate his family life.
Diane was selfless with her time in helping others. She took great joy in requesting food for local pantries in lieu of birthday gifts.
Instead of flowers, Diane's family would like for friends to bring a nonperishable food item in her honor.
