Edna Jean Wallace, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her family. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, with a visitation one hour before services. The Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Charles; five children, Bobbie (Mark) Daugherty, Russell (Leonna) Wallace of Mulvane, Kan., Kim (Robert) Hernandez, Susan (Chris) Gentz of Wisconsin and Michael (Gerry) Wallace of Martelle; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
Edna was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Scranton, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Breta Shivers Pennington. She was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in 1949. Edna and Charles Wallace were united in marriage July 17, 1951, in Shreveport, La. Edna was a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids for many years before retiring in 1993.
Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
The family would like to send a special thank-you to Beth, Angie, Pam and the staff at St. Luke's Hospice, and to her daughters, Bobbie and Kim, for their loving care these last few weeks.
