DALE MATHENY
Center Point
Dale George Matheny, 98, a retired businessman and a lifelong resident of Center Point, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by T.J. Klith. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point. Military honors will be provided.
Survivors include daughter, Jeanette Haars of Cedar Rapids; son, Douglas Matheny of Center Point; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Elnora Ritze and Tom and Nancy Krapfl.
He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Bernita Houts; and brother, Allen.
Dale was born March 15, 1916, the son of Glenn and Olive (Bock) Matheny. On Oct. 8, 1936, he married Hazel Hand in Center Point. She passed away Feb. 8, 2001. Dale, a World War II veteran, served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Center Point Road Church of Christ, Marion, Benton City Lodge No. 81 AF & AM, Shellsburg, and the American Legion, Center Point.
