Mary Myers, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. At Mary's request, there will be no services. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is caring for Mary and her family.
Survivors include her children, Linda Thorstenson, Greg Myers, Randy Myers and Doug Myers; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Carol Stolba, Kay DeBurkearte and Tom (Deb) Shaw; and several extended family members.
Mary Jean Shaw was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Waverly, to Leroy and Cora (Brady) Shaw. She attended Fort Dodge High School, then began working at Western Union. She met William Myers there, and they married on Aug. 3, 1951. She became a homemaker, enjoyed reading mystery and romance novels, and traveling to visit family in Wisconsin. Mary enjoyed playing slots at casinos, having a daily popcorn snack, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; daughter, Cindy; and sons-in-law, David Thorstenson and John Hardman.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and residents at Living Center West for their compassionate care of Mary.
