James Vincent DePyper passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from pancreatic cancer. He was 72 years old.
Jim was born in Marshall, Minn., to Julius and Margaret (Breyfogle) DePyper. He graduated from Tracey High School and went on to trade school. He married Barbara Morris and they had one child together, Ken. Immediately out of high school, he gained employment with NCR, from where he retired in 1996. After retirement, he was a silent partner at the Left Bank Bar with his best friend, Cathy. A passionate golfer, if he wasn't working he was either playing or watching golf. Being a farmer growing up, he never lost his passion for growing, tending a garden later in life. When he needed to rest, he would solve Sudoku puzzles to keep his mind sharp.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his best friend, Cathy Weger; and Barbara Sherman.
He is survived by his son, Ken (Felicia) DePyper; his grandchildren, David (Valerie) DePyper, Dezirae DePyper and Demitria DePyper; his great-grandson, Liam DePyper; his siblings, Robert (Millie) DePyper, Jean Short, Phyllis McCargar, Gerald (Leonre) DePyper, John (Micheal) DePyper and Mary (Robert) Kranbeer; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a vigil service at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a public visitation to follow.
