Shirley T. Crissinger, 82, passed away March 29, 2017, in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, April 11, at Ox Hill Baptist Church, Chantilly, Va. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. to service time. A luncheon will follow the service.
Shirley Weaver Tracey was born March 11, 1935, to parents Doris Bedent Weaver and Herbert Morris Tracey of Asheville, N.C. She grew up in Arlington, Va., where she graduated from Washington-Lee High School. Shirley worked for the National Geological Survey in Washington, D.C., for several years before marrying Edwin Frances Crissinger in 1955. For several years, Shirley and Edwin led the youth group ministry at Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, N.C. They were married for 53 years before his passing in 2008. Following Edwin's death, Shirley moved to Fairfax, Va., to live with her daughter, Debra, and son-in-law, Benn Savage, for eight years until recently moving to Iowa City. She was a member of the Silver Threads Seniors Group at Ox Hill Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by a sister, Mary Alene Bass of Charleston, S.C.; and children, Debra (Benn) Savage of Fairfax, Va., and Julie (David) Ricci of Iowa City; as well as grandchildren, Daniel (Kelsey) Ricci of Madison, Wis., and Cassie Ricci of Iowa City.
