Robert Dean Bowers, 91, of Walker, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Sherri Anderson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Floyd Williamson Post 712.
Survivors include his children, Linda (Raymond) Burns, Pittsburg, Kan., Richard (Bonnie) Bowers, Center Point, Carrie (Bill) Collins, Wentzville, Mo., BJ (Richard) Bemer, Toddville, John Bowers and Connie Morris, Coggon, Ava Platts, Iowa City, Mary Spangler, Cedar Rapids, and Ben (Deb) Bowers, Center Point; 24 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Marjorie Bowers, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Claire (Bernice) Bowers, Center Point, Ralph (Winona) Bowers, Martelle, and Phyllis (Howard) Chia, Lisbon; and his special friend, Rosa Findley.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell and Paul; and his children's mother, Bessie (Bolton) Bowers.
Born Dec. 22, 1922, in La Porte City, Iowa, Robert was the son of Roy and Anna (Nass) Bowers. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Robert spent his life farming.
