Morris "Greenie" Greenfield, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's United
Methodist Church, by Pastor Bonnie Koeppen. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and at the church Saturday after 10 a.m.
Morris is survived by his wife, Cindy; two daughters, Susan (Christopher) Salee of Palo and Sherry Greenfield of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Lauren and Parker Salee; two brothers, Robert (Hazel) Greenfield of Long Beach, Fla., and LeRoy (Janice) Greenfield of Edina, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Greenfield of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mary Dugan (John) of Chandler, Ariz.; in-laws, Kenneth and Roberta Knudson of Marshall-town; and four sisters-in-law, Becky (Rick) Engel-king of Conrad, Kris (Jeff) McKibben of Newton, Marcia (Wally) Kleman of Berlin, Wis., and Marilyn (Dennis) Keplin of Brandon, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip.
Morris was born Nov. 12, 1948, in Princeton, Minn., the son of Fredrich and Gladys (Vugteveen) Greenfield. He graduated from Milaca High School in Milaca, Minn., and attended St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. He married Cynthia Ann Knudson on June 23, 1973, in Marshalltown, where they made their home for several years before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1977.
Morris served in the U.S. Army for two years; one year in Vietnam with D Company 51st Infantry. He then spent 40 years with the Morton Building Co., working his way from crew member to manager of the Atkins office.
Greenie was a member of St. Mark's United Meth-odist Church and had served on numerous committees. He served on the Grant Wood AEA board of directors for 13 years. Morris also was a member of the Cedar Rapids West Rotary Club, where he achieved 29 years perfect attendance and 10 Paul Harris Fellowships.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788. Greenie loved to play softball and was a member of the Claxton Pharmacy team for 20 years.
Morris made friends with all he came into contact with, whether they were fellow softball players, customers, club mates or just waiting in line for something. He was quick with a joke and a smile and made people feel at home wherever he was.
Accomplishments and milestones cannot always be put into words. Greenie wore so many hats in this life (student, platoon mate, coach, teammate, husband, father, grandpa, "buddy," etc.) and will be dearly missed.
