Simonsen, Randy A.
Randy A. Simonsen, 39, of Urbana, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died July 1, 2011 following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Dawn Pederson of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Beth; his sons, Garrett Simonsen of Urbana and Brenden Warner of Des Moines; his stepdaughters, Katelyn and Piper Zelle; his parents, David and Marita Simonsen of Hiawatha; and his sister, Diana Longoria and husband Raymond of Kyle, Texas.
Randy Allen Simonsen was born March 30, 1972 in Cedar Rapids, the son of David Allen and Marita Rosemarie (Schlottag) Simonsen. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1992. He served his country honorably for 16 years in the United States Army during both Desert Shield and Iraqi Freedom. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 15 years in Facility Maintenance. He married Beth Zelle on September 20, 2010 in Jesup, Iowa. He enjoyed outdoor activities and time spent with family and friends. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was his children. He will be greatly missed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the memorial fund established in Randy's honor.
