Solem, Joseph W.
Joseph W. Solem, 62, of 1613 30th St. Ct. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at his home after a short illness. Services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; two daughters, Lisa (Dennis) Turkington and Melisa (Dain) Brunscheen, all of Cedar Rapids; one son, Joseph of Dubuque; his mother, Rose Bridgewater of Kentucky; three stepsons, Scott (Blythe) Meister, Terry (Nikki) Meister and Shannon (Dooley) Meister; and a stepdaughter, Darcy (Jeff) Karr, all of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Sandra Davis and Melody Amole; and two brothers, Jerry and Danny.
He was preceded in death by his father and former wife, Linda.
Joe was born on June 25, 1948, in Decorah, the son of Leonard and Rose Hines Solem. He married Susan Meister on Nov. 18, 2008, in Laughlin, Nev. Joe worked at Farmstead for over 25 years and later worked in maintenance at the Linn-Mar School District of 10 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club. Joe enjoyed fishing, golf, yard work, going to the casino and especially the time he spent with his many friends and beloved family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
