Carmela "Millie" Patakus, 82, of Marion, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Higley Mansion Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at The Church on Northland, Cedar Rapids, with family visitation before the service starting at 5 p.m. Inurnment is planned for St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y., at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
A memorial fund has been created for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Millie is survived by two daughters, Diane (Dan) Toy of Marion and Rose (Jack) Farrell of Claremont, Fla.; granddaughter, Danielle Toy, and grandson, Dustin Toy, both of Marion; and stepgranddaughter, Michelle Farrell of Claremont, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Rose and Thomas DePresco; and brother, Dominick DePresco.
Millie was born Feb. 2, 1932, in New York, the daughter of Thomas and Rose Dorio DePresco. She married George Patakus on Sept. 16, 1951, in New York and remained his loving wife until separated by his death.
Millie worked in quality assurance for pharmaceutical companies in the Long Island, N.Y., area for many years and in food service for over 12 years at Linn Mar Community Schools, retiring in 2012.
Millie enjoyed crocheting, reading and playing bingo with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
