Michael Bradley Staton,
31, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with visitation one hour before the service. The Rev. Steve Qualben will officiate. Private family burial at a later date.
Michael was born May 15, 1985, the son of Gary and Sharon Staton, in Bell County, Texas. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School and received his associate of science in chemistry from Kirkwood Community College. Michael then attended Mount Mercy, where he was called by God, and obtained a bachelor of arts in religious studies with a specialization in pastoral ministries. He had hoped to become a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor.
He loved music and participated in many choral programs, including In-Step and theater performances. Michael was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he trained with Pastor Hedtke in pastoral duties and the Stephen Ministry Program for caregiving. He was also a volunteer for West Ridge Care Center. More than anything, Michael loved his family and friends. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include numerous grieving loved ones and friends.
