Berg Jr., Roy L.
Roy L. Berg Jr., 74, of Oxford, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. There will be a period of visitation from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oxford United Methodist Church. No other services are planned.
Roy Leonard Berg Jr. was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Iron River, Wis., the son of Roy L. Berg Sr. and Gladys (Martel) Berg. His family moved to the West Branch area where he attended schools. On March 23, 1956, Roy married Marilyn J. Young in Iowa City. For many years he had been in the concrete business as a finisher, working for Kondora Concrete, and later for Bud Maas Concrete. Following his concrete years he worked at Pheasant Ridge Apartment Complex for several years before retiring in 1998. Roy believed in working hard and providing for his family. He was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye football fan, missing few home games; enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, or just riding around in the car with his faithful companion, Buddy!
His family includes his wife, Marilyn; sons, Earl Berg (Amy) of Oxford, Carl Berg and Roy L. Berg III “Lenny”, both of Oxford; daughter, Tina Kilburg (Lynn) of Eldridge; eight grandchildren, Heather Hassett (Ryan), Abbie Hobbick (Deke), Cory Berg (Callie), Jennifer, Serena, Breanna, Brooke and Trevor; four great-granddaughters, Corrie, Addison, Allie and Carlie; brothers, Gil Berg (Arlene) of Maquoketa, Harry Berg (Ellen) of California, Clarence Berg (Karen) of Kalona and Tom Berg (Cindy) of Texas; and sisters, Dorothy Carney of Iowa City and Evelyn Beaver (Larry) of Laurie, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Walt Carney.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Roy's family and his services.
Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Iowa City Hospice.
