Irene F. Campagna, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at the Meth-Wick Community following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 3
to 6 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after
9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Irene is survived by her two sons, Robert (Susan) of Loveland, Colo., and David (Jane) of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Charlotte (Adam) McDermott, Major John (Truongan) Campagna, Md., Dan (Caitlyn Wu) Campagna, Brian Campagna and Tim (Sara) Campagna; five great-grandchildren, Cole and AJ McDermott, Juliet and Nico Campagna and Leighton Campagna; one brother, Howard Sand; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Allan, who died in 2007; one brother, Joe Sand; and two sisters, Marie Sand and Florence Dripps, preceded Irene in death.
Irene Frances was born Jan. 21, 1917, in rural Benton County, the daughter of Anthony and Clara Maas Sand. She married Allan Campagna on May 19, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Irene was a clerk at Heuer Publishing Company for 38 years, retiring in 1978. Irene was a member of the Mother Cabrini Circle and the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was a member for 74 years.
Irene was a very generous person. She loved playing cards, traveling and quilting. She was the world's best cook and enjoyed making meals for her family for whom she cared deeply.
