Wagner, Dean A.
Dean A. Wagner, 81, of Cottage Grove Place, died Sept. 9, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. No services will be held. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; children, Mark Wagner and wife Pam Conlow of Golden Valley, Minn., and Megan (Thomas) Wuest of Eugene, Ore. Also surviving are grandchildren Erin (Adam) Faeth, Laura Wagner, and Veronika and Samuel Wuest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Dean was born July 12, 1928, in Marengo, the son of Earnest and Amy (Flanagan) Wagner. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was married to Elizabeth Maas on July 26, 1952, in Homestead. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa. He worked in Ames at WOI-TV, WKAR-TV in East Lansing, and ended his television career as director at WMT-TV in Cedar Rapids. He later worked as a Realtor at Hedges and Associates and Kohl Realty. He then started his own realty company, Dean Wagner Ltd., as well as managed rental properties he owned. He was a member of the Optimist Club and was also on the Mayor's Advisory Board, where he worked in re-establishing the bus system in Cedar Rapids. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in Dean's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
