Ronald Burdette Campbell, 82, of Marion, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center, Vinton. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Josh Hansen. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his children, Wanda Erwine of Cedar Rapids, Mel (Pam) Campbell of Dysart and Camella (John) Oellrich of Marion; eight grandchildren, Corey, Alysia, Wesley, Kyla, Chris, Eric, Angie and Audrey; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Suzanne) Campbell of Marion, Iona Hrdlicka of Marion and Connie Lockner of Marion; and sister-in-law, Annamae Baker of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; son, Creighton; siblings, Vernon Baker, Barb Nibeck and Sandra Longerbeam; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Campbell.
Ronnie was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Paralta, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Lauretta (Baker) Campbell. He married Rosemond "Rosie" Davis on Sept. 26, 1952, in Central City. Ronnie worked for Allis-Chalmers/Harnischfeger in Cedar Rapids for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Central City. Ronnie enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in Ronnie's memory.
Ronnie's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton for their exceptional and loving care.
