Swank, Michael D. 'Mike'
Michael D. “Mike” Swank, 62, of Coralville, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013. Mike's wishes were to be cremated. His family will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a time of sharing memories and refreshments until 2 p.m.
Instead of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society. Lansing Funeral Service in Iowa City is assisting with arrangements.
Mike was born Dec. 27, 1950, in Moline, Ill., the son of Melvin John “Jack” Swank and Doris (Dody) Elaine (Covault) Bucherer. He was a graduate of Moline High School, Western Illinois University with a degree in Criminal Justice and the University of Iowa with a degree in Pharmacology. Mike was a well-respected police officer with the Moline Police Department for eight years. He also spent 24 years caring for patients as a pharmacist with Kmart in Iowa City.
Mike is survived by his mother, Doris; his brothers and sisters, Richard Bucherer of Tooelle, Utah, Linda (Bucherer) Vier of Palmer Lake, Colo., Scott Swank of Davenport, Kelly McGee of Davenport and Laure DeMink of Moline, Ill.
Mike was preceded in death by his father.
