Private graveside services for Pearl Anna "Shorty" Barrett, 87, of Eudora, Kan., will be held at Marshfield Cemetery, Marshfield, Mo. She died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, in her home.
Shorty was born on March 31, 1927, in Marshfield, Mo., daughter of Delever and Maggie Mae (Burchett) Dalton. She married Harlan Philbert Barrett on Jan. 25, 1942, in Marshfield. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1995. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Eudora, Kan., where she lived near her sister, Nora. They spent many hours together reminiscing about the past.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family. She also enjoyed camping, cross stitch, quilting, playing cards and gambling at the casino.
She was a homemaker. She was employed at Oral B in Iowa City for 10 years before her retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Narji K. and husband Mark L. Brecheisen, Eudora; a son, Kenneth Harlan Barrett and wife Lynn, Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Bethany Cluck, Cara Dietrich, Ben Barrett, Sean Dietrich, Nicole Barrett and Nathan Nosley; four great-grandchildren, Tristen, Ryan, Jeromy and Piper; and her loving companion dog, Suzy Q.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Brecheisen, on June 14, 2000; and seven siblings, Verdie Dalton, Nora Dyche and Arthur, Albert, Orville, Elston and Glenn Dalton.
The family suggests memorials in her name to a charity of donor's choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, Kan.
