Anton, Larry I.
Larry I. Anton, 74, of La Porte City, died peacefully on his farm Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
He was born May 29, 1939, in Waterloo, the son of Irving and Thelma Palmer Anton. He was a 1957 graduate of La Porte City High School and received his B.S. degree in farm operations at Iowa State University, graduating in 1961. He married Judy Sickles on Aug. 27, 1961, in Janesville.
He served from 1962-1964 in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Okla., and later at Fort Riley, Kan.
He and Judy, along with Dave and Theresa, operated Anton Farms Inc., a family farm since 1964.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, FarmHouse Fraternity, 4-H, Farm Bureau, Extension, Iowa Cattlemen Association, IFYE (International 4-H Youth Exchange), La Porte City Lions Club and La Porte City American Legion Post 207.
Surviving are his wife, Judy of La Porte City; two sons, Bryan (Lori) of Dixon, Ill., and Paul (Shelly) of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Nancy (Brice) AntonJensen of Hiawatha; seven grandchildren, Lydia, Monica, Mary, Michelle, Grant, Drew and Quinn; and one brother, Dave (Theresa) of La Porte City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, John Paul.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with military rites conducted by La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post 207 and VFW Post 3983. Interment will be in West View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and also one hour before the service.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Iowa 4-H Foundation or FSMA (Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
