Martin, Marty
Marty Martin, 52, of 1919 Buckingham Dr. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; sons, Jason (Mandi) Martin of Cedar Rapids, and Jay Martin (Kelli Hartsock) of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Tayia Martin; sisters, Kay (Don) Sickles of Marshalltown, and Pam Martin of Cedar Rapids; brother, Ron (Judy) Nicholson of Milton, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Peanut.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents.
Born March 22, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Marty was the son of Medford “Tex” and Evareta (Mays) Martin. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1976. On April 8, 1978, he was united in marriage to Judy Carlson at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. In high school, Marty worked at the Wareco Gas Station and later Asplundh Tree Service. For many years, he was a carpet installer and currently was the chief maintenance engineer for the Holiday Inn Express.
Marty loved spending time with his family as well as the outdoors, camping and fishing.
