Joyce Marie Jacobi was born Nov. 15, 1936, in the home of her grandparents in rural Marengo. The family moved to a farm near Conroy, and Joyce received her education at Hilton Consolidated Schools and graduated with the Class of 1954. She went on to business college in Cedar Rapids and worked in the city until her marriage to David O. Jones on May 4, 1957, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo. The couple settled on the Jones Family Farm west of Williamsburg. The family was very proud when the farm received its Century designation in 2012.
Joyce assisted Dave on the farm and also worked at Farmers Trust and Savings in Williamsburg for many years. She later worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, retiring from there in 2003. Dave and Joyce enjoyed their retirement years on the farm, working in the yard, and traveling. Joyce enjoyed canning and freezing the produce from Dave's garden and fruit trees. She especially liked to bake pies. Joyce was a very talented quilter and shared her quilts with many family members and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Randy (Lisa) of Olathe, Kan., and their son Bradley (Carolyn Homer) of Alexandria, Va.; Terry (Susan) of Williamsburg and their children, Paige (Brad) Grandgeorge of Clarion and great-granddaughter Deanna; Nate of Williamsburg; and Eric (Kathryn) of Williamsburg and their children, Nicholas of Williamsburg, Elizabeth of Stillwater, Okla., and Clint D. of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David in 2013; and an aunt, Esther Meeks.
