MARITA ROSEMARIE SIMONSEN Hiawatha Jan. 21, 1941 -- Dec. 28, 2020 Marita Rosemarie Simonsen, 79, previously of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, in Austin, Texas, after a long illness. Marita moved to Texas in 2016 to be closer to her daughter, Diana. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 5, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields are required. Funeral services will be held immediately after at 2 p.m. A livestream of the service will be available at client.tribucast.com/tcid/65238208 starting at 2 p.m. Interment Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Marita was born on Jan. 21, 1941, in Lauenburg Pommern, Germany, to Fritz and Erna Schlottag. She was one of seven children. Marita met her beloved husband David, while he was stationed in Kaiserslautern Germany. They were married on March 21, 1968, and moved to the United States shortly thereafter. Marita and David settled in Marion where they raised their two children, Diana and Randy. They enjoyed the outdoors, road trips and just being together. Marita frequently traveled to Germany to visit family and friends. Marita worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids for 26 1/2 years before retirement in 2001. She devoted all her time and love to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Diana (Raymond) Longoria of Kyle, Texas; grandchildren, Sydney and Ethan Longoria, Garrett Simonsen and Brenden Warner; sisters, Renate Schlottag, Marlies Diederichs and Regina Kaiser of Germany; brother-in-law, Dennis (Jean) Simonsen of Marion; and sister-in-law, Cheryl (Glenn) Mills of Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her son, Randy; her brother, Werner; and sisters, Karin and Hilde.
