DWIGHT WICKE
Cedar Rapids
Dwight Leo Wicke, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Hallmar Care Center. Private family services were held in Dwight's memory. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. Teahen Funeral Home is
serving the family.
Dwight is survived by two brothers, Dale (Marilyn) Wicke of Cedar Rapids and Bob (Peggy) Wicke of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Doris (Jim) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his parents, Leo J. and Dorothy; a sister, Elaine Evans; a brother-in-law, John Evans; and his stepmother, Vlasta Wicke.
Dwight was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Waukesha, Wis., the son of Leo J. and Dorothy Walter Wicke. He married the love of his life, Kay Scheneberger, on Aug. 7, 1976, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dwight and Kay lived many happy years together until her death May 13, 1999.
He was a meat cutter who spent the first 17 years of his career working for the Me-Too store in Cedar Rapids and then retired after 20 years in 1986 as a meat cutter for HyVee.
He was an Army veteran and a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church.
Dwight enjoyed taking long walks in his spare time and since his retirement he walked well over 28,000 miles, a record very few could accomplish. Over the years Dwight also recorded much of the Wicke family history through the use of his 8 Mm movie camera.
Dwight's family always will be grateful to him for the wonderful memories, and he will dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dwight's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mercy Hallmar for their loving and compassionate care.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
