A treat for Iowans in Arizona

I got a call a week or so ago from a very good friend in Arizona.
As many of you know, there are a lot of transplanted Iowans - and Cedar Rapidians - in Arizona. Great place, too. My wife and I have been out there twice, once for the wedding of aforementioned friend and the second time to watch our son run in a track meet.
One of my favorite stops is Honey Bear's BBQ in Phoenix (one of two right by the airport) and Tempe.
Go to www.honeybearsbbq.com for more information about the locations, hours, etc.
But this brings me back to my original point. My friend, former Cedar Rapids Washington state high jump champ and UNI football star Kirk Hobbs, wanted to let me know that Honey Bear's is having a special treat for all Iowans in Arizona over the holidays.
You see, Honey Bears is owned by Mark Smith, Kirk's brother, and Gary Clark - two more former Cedar Rapids residents. The best friends from their days at McKinley and Washington opened their first restaurant in 1986 and have been named the Best in Phoenix many times. Check out their story at the website, along with pictures and the menu.
Here's the deal: Anyone showing an Iowa ID will get 25 percent off their bill.
I can honestly say this is best barbecue I have ever had. When we were in town for Kirk's wedding we ate there nearly every meal.
Give it a shot while before and/or after you watch the Hawkeyes take on Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl. You'll love it.
