Shedenhelm, Ray F.
Ray F. Shedenhelm, 88, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, died there on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, after a long illness. Services at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Beth Harbaugh will officiate. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include his son, Thomas (Peggy) of Cedar Rapids; and a grandson, Jordan Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Ray was born on June 15, 1924, in Marengo, the son of Grafton and Phoebe Yearian Shedenhelm. He married Helen M. Kroymann on Dec. 28, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1983.
Ray was a welder at Iowa Manufacturing and retired from there after more than 35 years of service. He was a life member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Ray served in World War II as an army paratrooper and received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed collecting rocks and belonged to several local rock clubs as well as making jewelry.
Ray was a wonderful husband and father who will be greatly missed by his beloved family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
