Herbsleb, Donald 'Ray'

Donald “Ray” Herbsleb, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died at Northbrook Care Center on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his stepson, William (Judy) Wallig of Marion; daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Bertrand of Waterloo; a half brother, Gordon Herbsleb of Waterloo; his aunt, Catherine Evans of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen in 2007.

Ray was born Sept. 13, 1929. He was adopted by Kenneth and Carolyn Herbsleb. He married Kathleen Udelhofen in Illinois on May 23, 1975.

Ray enjoyed gardening, bird watching, golfing, and fishing. He liked to spend time with his friends at the Double Inn. He was a former member of the Eagles Club.

Ray will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

A memorial fund has been established.
