Duane Arthur Palmer Sr. was born July 12, 1928, to Dale and Lorita (Borett) Palmer. He passed away on Dec. 22, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Hansel Cemetery in Garber, Iowa. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
He grew up around the Edgewood Colesburg area working odd farm jobs. He served a short stint in the Army before being medically discharged. On May 9, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty Fisher. They were married for 24 years before divorcing. On Oct. 18, 1980, he married Roberta Shelton. Duane worked for Kings Concrete for 32 years and after his retirement drove school buses for Prairie and then for North Cedar. As a hobby, he repaired lawnmowers and small engines with his best friend, Norm.
Duane is survived by his children, Elaine Palmer, Sandy Palmer-Todd, Donald (Gayle) Palmer, Dee (Tim) Weaver and Diana (Tom) Lehmkuhl; bonus children, Lisa and Aaron Klieneck; daughter-in-law, Alice Palmer; brother, Roger (Jean) Palmer; sister-in-law, Mary Palmer; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; brothers, Lydell, Curtis, Donald, Lowell and Ronald; sister-in-law, Rita; son-in-law, Mike Todd; son, Duane Jr.; and one granddaughter.
