Ray, 88, passed away April 7, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Ray was born in Hills, Iowa, where he spent his early years. He graduated from Iowa City (City High) in 1948.
Ray served in the Army during the Korean War. On his return from Korea he married Joyce Brand-statter on Oct. 31, 1953. Ray built their first home in
Hiawatha, where they raised two children, Jim (deceased 2003) and Lora (Ron Mayland).
Ray worked at Collins Radio for 33 years in the model shop and as an inspector in the tool and die department. Ray enjoyed ballroom and country dancing. He was an avid pool player and trick water skier. Ray and his family spent countless time together boating, water-skiing and camping.
Ray and Joyce wintered in Arizona for the past 30 years. He got great pleasure out of his granddaughters, Chrismathe and Fabienne.
Ray was laid to rest at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha. A private family service will take place later this spring.
