Miller, Herbert Nicholas
Herbert Nicholas Miller, 91, of Manchester, died suddenly on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on May 13, 1919, in rural Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Anna (Grawe) Miller. Herb received his education in the Earlville Schools. After school, he began farming with his parents and in 1936 when his father died he helped take over the farm.
Herbert was united in marriage to Margaret Recker on June 30, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Together they helped Louie Ryan farm and then later began farming on their own in rural Manchester. They retired and moved to town in 1979. Herb did hail adjusting for 10 years and drove for the RTA for many years.
Herb was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley and a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He especially loved his family, enjoyed golfing (got a “hole in one” at age 89) andplaying cards.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret Miller of Manchester; five children, Joan (Doneldon Dennis) Miller of Mendota Heights, Minn., Pat (Bill) Serbousek of Cedar Rapids, Richard Miller of Solon, David (Jenny) Miller of Iowa City, and Daniel Miller of Palmdale, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew (Louise) Miller of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and two sisters, Anna Jean Harris of Manchester, and Mary Lou (Mickey) Lemmon of Dunnellon, Fla.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delmar, James and Leon Miller; and two grandchildren, Gregory Kane and Sarah Serbousek-Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. John Flahertycelebrant. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary; and also after 9:30 a.m.Friday at the church.Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
