A Coralville man is in custody after he allegedly knocked his girlfriend unconscious Saturday night.
According to criminal complaints, police responded to 938 Boston Way, No. 7 in Coralville around 5:30 p.m. for a report of an injured female. Upon arrival, officers found a woman incoherent and unable to speak.
The victim's roommate told police the victim and her boyfriend had been in an argument and when she looked outside, she saw the victim lying unconscious on the ground.
The victim's boyfriend, 40-year-old Rudolph D. Edwards, who lives at the Boston Way address, allegedly told officers “she hit me with a phone and I just blacked out.”
Police said the woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for further medical care.
Edwards was charged with willful injury, a Class C felony, and domestic assault. He is being held in Johnson County Jail on a $20,000 cash only bond.
