Stealey, Mary Jane
Mary Jane Stealey, 81, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Madison, Ind., died Dec. 18, 2009, at Methwick Woodlands following a long illness. Private family funeral services will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Harlan Gillespie of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Mark Stealey of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lynn Bueg and husband Ken of Paris, Tenn., and Doug Stealey and wife Jackie of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jenni Severns and husband David of Nevada, Rachel Stealey of Pennsylvania, Heather Bueg and Shawn Bueg both of Paris, Tenn., and Nick Stealey and Megan, both of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Leo.
Mary Jane Stealey was born Feb. 1, 1928, in West Virginia, the daughter of Harry and Causba (Queen) Gould. She was united in marriage to Leo M. Stealey on Aug. 30, 1947, in Elkins, W.Va. Leo preceded her in death in 2006. Mary Jane was employed as a teacher's aide at E.O. Muncie School in Madison, Ind., for several years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts. Her family will treasure the many keepsakes she made. She also shared her artistic abilities in the creation of the banners used in church services, and a sketch drawing of the church that was used for the cover of the weekly bulletins. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends in earlier years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
The family requests memorial donations are made to the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of Mary Jane.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Hospice Compassus and the Methwick Community for the kindness and care extended to Mary Jane and her family.
