Kermit Leon Hinshaw, 95, of Richland, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at SunnyBrook Living Care
Center, Fairfield.
He was born March 25, 1919, in Richland, Iowa, the
son of Loren Levi and Gertrude Pearl (Shy) Hinshaw. Kermit married Janet Anne Trigg on Oct. 5, 1941. The couple lived in Richland their entire married life.
Kermit was a World War II veteran of the European Theater. He was a farmer and businessman. He also raised and raced Standardbred horses, including Jodevin, the 1976 National Two-Year-Trotter of the Year.
Kermit is survived by his children, John and wife Reka of Ankeny, Emily Emonin and husband John of Marion, Korwin and wife Judi of Fairfield and Sallie Hayes and husband Terry of Fairfield; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Anne (Trigg); and brothers, Loren Keith and Kevin Dean.
Services for Kermit L. Hinshaw will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Woolson Friends Church, Richland, with the Rev. Frosty Van Voorst officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the church, with family present from 6 until 8 p.m. Interment will be at Richland Friends Cemetery, Richland.
Memorials have been established to the Woolson Friends Church, Richland Friends Cemetery and the Christian Harness Horse Association and may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1104 Wedgewood Circle, Fairfield, IA 52556. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is assisting the family.
