Junior guard from Nebraska commits to Hawkeyes

Dec. 16, 2011 7:29 am
Alexa Kastanek, a junior at Lincoln (Neb.) Southeast High School, has orally committed to play for the University of Iowa women's basketball team.
Kastanek informed the Hawkeyes of her decision Thursday evening.
The 5-foot-8 guard has led Lincoln Southeast high school to the state tournament the last two seasons, averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game.
She said Lisa Bluder and her staff were the first to recruit her and have stayed consistent through her high school career. Kastanek chose the Hawkeyes over Colorado, Nebraska and North Carolina State.
"Iowa's been there from the beginning, and that set them apart," Kastanek told the Lincoln Journal-Star.
"They've stuck with me through all the ups and downs and believed in me that I'll improve and be able to help their program."
Kastanek's older sister, Marissa, is a junior starter for N.C. State. She averages 12.4 points per game for the Wolfpack.
