Ronald Alan Stewart, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018. Funeral services will be led by Father Sinclair Ender at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Grace Episcopal Church, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Diane of Cedar Rapids; mother, Dorris Raines Stewart of Katy, Texas; sisters, Sherry Saulters of Katy, Texas, and Dianne (Joseph) Reeves of Piney Point, Texas; sisters-in-law, Lynn Condreay of Raleigh, N.C., and Sandra (Dale) Gruber of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Ron, born on Nov. 21, 1951, in Alexandria, La., was the son of Ronald and Dorris Raines Stewart. He was a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he played on the tennis team. On June 14, 1980, he married Diane McDaniel at Grace Episcopal Church in Alvin, Texas. Ron worked throughout the country as an engineer and project manager for Fluor Corp. for over 30 years. He first became familiar with Cedar Rapids in 1988, when he and his wife, Diane, moved here to construct the Genencor plant, which has since become the DuPont Industrial Biosciences plant. After returning to Cedar Rapids in 2000, he worked for Estes Corp. and Weitz before retirement for poor health in 2008. He was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, serving in various capacities, including the Grace Medical Lending Closet.
Due to his giving nature, he was loved by many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis, scuba diving, music and golf. Ron had a special fondness for each of his dogs throughout his life. Over the years, Ron and Diane have opened their home to many in need.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Stewart; his mother-in-law, Ruth Anne McDaniel; and brothers-in-law, Larry Saulters and Gordon McDaniel.
Memorials may be directed to the Grace Episcopal Church Building Fund or the Medical Lending Closet.
