Doris Marie Slater Connell, 84, of Marion, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Doris is survived by her children, Rick (Cindi) Slater of Cedar Rapids and Marty (Wanda) Slater of Marion; brothers, Bill (Pat) Wright and Tom (Sue) Wright, all of Marion; grandchildren, Katie (Colson) Hosford of Tallahassee, Fla., Kyle Slater of Cedar Rapids and Adam (Tonya) Slater of Marion; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mack and Rollin; brother, Jim Wright; and granddaughter, Kellie.
Doris was born April 1, 1932, in Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Wesley and Hazel (Hall) Wright. She graduated from Marion High School in 1950. On Sept. 13, 1950, she married Mack Slater. He passed away Jan. 22, 1970. She later married Rollin Connell in 1981. He passed away in 1989. Doris was employed at Collins Radio for 33 years as well as being a farmer's wife, retiring in 1994.
