Wright, Phillys Eloise

Phillys Eloise Wright, 85, formerly of Coggon, died March 1, 2013, at Boulder Manor, Boulder, Colo.

Phillys was born in Buchanan County on a farm near Troy Mills to Orie and Blanche Machacek Long. Following Phillys' graduation from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, she married Stanley Wright on June 5, 1949. He opened her eyes to what the world might be if peace prevailed. After living in several places, Portland, Ore., Muskegon, Mich., and Greeley, Colo., they choose Barnesville, Ohio to raise their family. Phillys taught third-graders for many years at Barnesville Elementary. Phillys and Stan moved to Colorado in 1982. In Nederland, Colo., Phillys was active as a volunteer for Amnesty International and the Mountain Forum for Peace, attending many peace protests. She was a member of the Nederland Fire Department and very involved with the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church.

Phillys was a talented artist, loved nature, worked for peace, but mostly loved her family and grandchildren.

Phillys was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; and her sister, Lenore Eggleston.

She is survived by her children, Cory Wright of Gilpin County, Colo., and Jane (Murray) Schatz of Lafayette, Colo.; grandchildren, Aubrey and Andrew Schatz; three sisters, Pauline Schatzle, Rosemary Dake and Shery Haight, all of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church.
