Gladys Wright, 85, formerly of Oxford Junction, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at United Methodist Church in
Wyoming, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
Gladys Elnora was born Sept. 23, 1929, to parents Willard and Sarah (Morris) Wright in rural Jones County near Olin, Iowa. She attended country school in Jones County and graduated from eighth grade in Olin. She attended high school in Olin and Coggon. In 1941, she moved to a farm near Masonville, Iowa, and in 1950, to a farm west of Wyoming, where she lived for 35 years. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1946.
Upon graduation she stayed on the farm helping her father with milking the cows, and also took care of her mother who was in ill health for several years.
When her father retired, Gladys joined in a partnership with her brother, Louis, in farming. When Louis retired, Gladys worked on the Green Thumb program helping at the Senior Dining Center in Wyoming. In 1987, she moved to Oxford Junction, where she resided until 2004, when she moved back to Wyoming for two years until moving to the Anamosa Care Center in 2006.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, collecting pig figurines and cooking.
Gladys is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Wright of Wyoming; nephews, Robert (Judy) Denison of Weston, Wis., and Tim (Beth) Wright of Wyoming; and nieces, Kathy (Doug) McCloy of Wyoming, Joanne Zuber of Norway, Iowa, and Carol (Jim) Allen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louis, Raymond and Donald Wright; two sisters, Mildred Luckstedt and Dorothy Denison; two nieces, Betty Ann Wahlstrom and Judy Ortgies; and a nephew, Howard Luckstedt.
Memorials are preferred.
