Jeanne D. Swisher, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015, at Lantern Park Nursing Home, Coralville. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa
City. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library or the University of Iowa Foundation – Department of Neurology (Alzheimer's Research).
Jeanne was born Audrey Jeanne Dawson on March 21, 1928, in Osage City, Kan., the daughter of Hiram B. and Nellie M. (Smith) Dawson. She grew up in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and moved to Iowa City in 1960. Jeanne was united in marriage to Charles Swisher on March 21, 1951, in Columbus Junction. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2011. She was a secretary for Trinity Episcopal Church for 18 years.
Jeanne was very active in the Republican Party. She was a docent at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and enjoyed performing as Abigail Adams at events at the library. Charles and Jeanne enjoyed wintering in Venice, Fla. Jeanne believed that family was her greatest blessing in life.
Jeanne is survived by her four children, Diane (James) Denneny of Iowa City, Deborah (Bill) Thoman of Iowa City, Douglas (Abby) Swisher of Franklin, Tenn., and Doreen (Bruce) Gudlin of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Shilpa) Denneny, David Denneny, Michelle Denneny, Susan (Corey Brown) Thoman, Steven (Elissa Bradfield) Thoman, Timothy (Katrina) Thoman, Scott Bell, Kelvin (Natalee) Bell, Shawn Gudlin and Shannon Gudlin; and three great-grandchildren, Amiya and Anya Denneny and Kayla Brown.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Swisher; and parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Eberly and the staff at Lantern Park for its wonderful care.
